brief from Oli. part 1

part I

good friend of mine, Oli, requested i created for him an image of a bull. a white and brown one, you know the one i mean? i asked him why and he responded with "i just like looking at them". fair enough. i left it there and asked no more.
he later mentioned that he would like a t shirt of one, so i took it upon myself to have a t shirt printed for him with the previously requested bull imagery.
the only specs where a brown and white bull, with the request of it being printed on a grey t shirt.

depending on availability, i plan on using a french grey t shirt. i think that with the almost terracotta-like brown colour on the bull, the tinted grey will work suitabley as a back drop.

a bit of googling has shown that what i'm looking to create is a "hereford bull". tat's what the species is called.

part II

it's been a while since i posted on here. thought i'd give you a little update of what's been happening with this t-shirt for oli.

it turns out a hereford bulls head, like human hands, is such a specific and individual shape that if it isn't constructed within a drawing accurately, it looks off and strange. so after a repetative process of trying to nail the shape i finally came up with a final image i'm happy with and going to now put through Adobe Illustrator.

the trouble after that is trying to find a local printing service that print on t-shirts. my main concern is whether they have white ink? because i want to print white on a grey t shirt - if not, it might have to be a hand-made job and i'm not sure how to go about that.

here's a sneak peek

part III

well, after a few attempts at finding good colours and shapes on AdobeIllustrator I came up with this as the final image to be printed on the t-shirt.

I just need to run it by Oli to see what he thinks, but i am pleased with the result, once the t-shirt has been printed, i will post photos on here and then i'm setting up a system for my 2 blogs.
this blog, Why Can't I Use Helvetica, will be used to post stuff I find and like and my other blog, Made By Sea Monsters, will be used to put my own work up that I do for uni or outside of my course.
