but they're not graphic novels.
they're comic books.
so shut up.
They are Gone by Nigel Auchterlounie and Psychiatric Tales by Darryl Cunningham.

They are lovely little black & white comic book stories, they have a real humanity in the story-telling and drawing. really really lovely.
The only bit of colour between the two is the front cover for Gone. Which I don't particularly like. but I do like the publishers, There Goes Tokyo..., little logo of Godzilla.

I should point out that the original Toho film Godzilla, which was later released in the west having been raped by the Americans as Godzilla: King of the Monsters, is my absolute favourite film of all time.

but these books have inspired me; I've had the idea of making my own comic book for some time now. I have a basic story and concept mapped out in my head. and only a few drawings of a character that i'd like to use. I don't want to give anything about the story of the art away really, but the working title at the moment is Keep Me Company. I hope it's going to be something really different and refreshing. I was thinking of making it as a coloured comic, maybe A4 with digital text, kind of like the super hero comics I love, but reading these two comics has touched me with the personality you get through entirely hand-done text and a really crisp black and white drawing. on smaller pages as well, I love how intimate it is to read the smaller pages rather than the cinema like qualities of the mass-produced super hero comics.
so yeah, keep an ear open on here. im looking forward to getting started.
