Under Milk Wood

OH! SAFE!
it's been quite a while!
The second year of university really has kicked off quickly, getting straight in there with coursework and a project and what not. It's been great fun and I'm enjoying it even more than first year.
But why the such long delay between this and my last post? I heard they had to invent a new measurement of time just to describe how long it's been?
My friends Sam, Oli and I have moved into our new student house and the only thing i can think to compare our effort to get internet access to the house to is the twelve labours of Hercules. It's just been one hiccup after another getting the provider to actually do something. But anyway, I've come home for a few days so I thought I'd make the most of it and get something up here!

In the time i've been away I have actually started and finished the first piece of coursework for the year. Apparently it IS possible to do coursework without home internet access. The project was to come up with a cover illustration and then three character illustrations for the BBC's up-coming re-mastering of Dylan Thomas' classic "Under Milk Wood" for the iPad. UMW is an excellent play and I would recommend anyone with an interest in being drunk and literature read/listen to it.

Over all, i'm not really happy with my final pieces (the coloured ones which are the dimensions of an iPad screen), I think i'm developing a style i'm happy with but it really does need refining as a lot of it, such as the stylising of faces or the solid black areas of shading are un-forgivingly crap, but it's definitely something to work towards. I think the blue one came out a'ight, and the pink one is ok for the most part but the yellow one really just gets harder to look at every time. the developmental drawings for it were better but i was running out of time - I still can't believe I thought the little ladies face was acceptable when i inked it... must have been all the spray-mount. I think the text on the front cover came out ok though?

Below are some of the high points of the project. I really think the initial ideas are better and the finals are just the result of having to develop a project rather than just submitting worked up versions of the early ideas, resulting in diluted, over thought mediocrity.
